Yes, we’ve heard this rumor before.
The word Margaritaville seems to keep reappearing in the Atlantic City story lines. There was the proposed sale/transformation of the former Trump Marina into a Margaitaville Casino/Resort (the site has since been gutted and upgraded into the Golden Nugget).
Then there is Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band returning to Boardwalk Hall Aug. 4 singing “Margaritaville” (showtime is 8 p.m.).
But rumor has it that the Margaritaville name might be setting up a permanent residence on the AC Boardwalk across from Resorts Hotel and Casino on the old Steeplechase Pier site. According to published reports, the casino has applied to the state for an environmental permit to rebuild the site, which was destroyed in a 1988 fire, with a proposed $6-million Margaritaville Landshark Bar & Grill. On paper, it sounds like a fabulous idea as its a great, family-friendly restaurant. But we all know the application process is just the beginning of what can be a wait long wait. The proposed Hard Rock Resort on the Downbeach side of town also is going through the application process.
I look forward to seeing how this story unfolds.
